Hello feathered friends!  Welcome to Spotted Canary's first EVER challenge.  As this challenge takes flight, please join in the FUN -- everyone who enters has a chance to win great prizes from the Spotted Canary sponsors!

Continuous edge punching techniques, also known as, punch around the page -- is currently 'all the rage' in crafting these days. Here are a few examples to get you thinking about how to use the terrific combination sets in a variety of ways. I will be adding further party instructions throughout this week so stay tuned!

http://www.spottedcanary.com/Bridal_Shower__Punch_Around_the_Page_Party.htm

On your mark -- get set -- GO!  We want to see your creative projects -- You may create with a corner and edge punch set, a die cutting machine or come up with your own innovative ideas.  We welcome any project type for this challenge, as long as it somehow incorporates creative edges.

Have fun crafting canary's and remember you need to post your projects in order to WIN!

Great job, Catherine! Love the projects! I adore my Punch Around the Page tools and never even thought of a placemat. The other stuff, yes, but not that. FAB! I cannot wait to play...and maybe invite some people over for dinner. Hahahahahaha! I'll post anything I make!

HUGS!

Thanks Corrine>  It's interesting, the place mat is the easiet item of all of the party accesories and adds so much POP to the table.  Just think you could create one with any color of 12 X 12 cardstock or pattern paper to fit the theme of your special occasion.

An added bonus for me was the additional practice with my PATP design technique -- by the time I has made a few of the place mats -- I knew exactly how to align the punch guide, for perfection each time. WOO HOO!

The PATP design takes a little bit of practice to get started -- but they create such an awesome look -- it is well worth the effort!

Besides we all know 'practice makes perfect' -- kind words -- to be sure -- from my eight grade math teacher. HA!

I will be looking forward to what you and the other crafters here come up with using creative edges.  By the way -- this challenge is good for two weeks only -- so start submitting your projects!

...GOOD LUCK!

Hi Ashjoy,

Where are you going on vacation?  I certainly hope you decide to join the fun and play along on this challenge -- before you leave on your travels.  There are prizes from the Ek Success Brands involved -- who wouldn't want that?

So dust off those punches -- or better yet treat yourself to a new punch around the page set -- all get creating.

Remember Canary's -- post those projects to win!  All skill levels accepted.

I had to try this out quickly. I hope to play more later this weekend! Here is a simple, fast card that came out so cute. Very pretty in person (colors are more vibrant). I used the Daisy Edge punches (corner and border) to punch around the page. I simply followed the measurement guidelines in the packet instructions. Cut the salmon paper to 3 1/4 x 5, punched the corners first, then simply lined up the border punch and viola! I wanted something fast, so I used a fab new sticker from a sheet of Martha Stewart Crafts flowers, used our biggest circle punch, and added a couple 3-D Dots. This is so pretty (and easy/fast), I'm going to make up a few later to send to all 3 couples we had dinner with last weekend.

Daisy Edge: corner (42-5002), edger (42-40012)

Martha Stewart Crafts sticker: Red-Pink Dahlia (M860359)

Wow! There is no way for me to show these shots to you. When I try to upload, it says it's too big (I resized it, so I know it's not me). Then when I try to upload a project and do it that way, it stops uploading the picture and spits me back out to Step One. Let me see if we can fix this.

Hey Crafting Canary's,

I hope all of you have some fun weekend times planned -- including posting your creative edge projects. ( Hint Hint)

(Corrine, I too had a posting challenge -- earlier this morning -- but was able to get this project posted a few minutes ago.)

http://www.spottedcanary.com/Bridal_Shower_Punch_Around_the_Page_Party_Accessories_III.htm

You can see how easy-- by the photos and simple instructions-- just how fast and easy it is to coordinate your party accessories to your table linens, the bride's wedding colors, or other party occasions/themes.

Please let me know if any of you have any puching or 'punch around the page' questions!  I will be monitoring this challenge throughout the weekend.

I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful creative edge projects soon.

InkaCatherine

Hello,

This is a fun opportunity to try to use punches differently and I love to learn and try new things.  So thanks for the challenge and inspiration.  I played with the few punches that I have and I came up with one card.  I am trying to do another one but not sure if you can have more then one entry and don't know if I will get it done.

I am trying to link my card to this posting but not having luck yet.  But it is in my items on my site.  It is also at www.spottedcanary.com/Vintage_Birthday_Card(2).htm

Thanks, Amanda

Thanks for playing along with us Amanda.  Your Victorian Card looks awesome.  Thanks for posting it.  I think punching can add so much to cards, scrapbook pages and other home decor or any paper projects actually --

Happy Creative Edging Canary's -- remember to post your creative edge project for a chance to win prizes from the Spotted Canary Sponsors!  Only one week left to play.

Fellow Canaries: Thanks for checking out our FIRST EVER CHALLENGE!  We hope you enjoy playing along.

Have you had trouble posting a response in the forums or a project in the gallery?  We hope not, but if so we wanted to let you know that you are not alone!

There is a glitch that is currently interfering with the submission process for some members.  Our developers are working feverishly to correct the issue, but until then here's a suggestion:

If you get bumped out when loading a project, add your materials list into the description section and leave the materials area blank.  If you have issues posting to the forum or anywhere else, try refreshing your browser (Ctrl F5 on a PC, or Shift r on a Mac) and log in again.

The glitch should be corrected soon, but in the meantime we wanted to give you the latest information so that you could PLAY ALONG FOR A CHANCE TO WIN!

Terrific News Canaries --

Due to some site challenges -- a few of you may have experienced --  the Spotted Canary Sponsors have decided to extended this challenge -- giving you more time to create your punched projects.  Details on the additional time element will be posted soon.

More time to play and more time to submit your creative edge projects for this challenge! WOO HOO!  So, get busy and show us what you can do.

InkaCatherine is correct!  Some members encountered a glitch recently that made it difficult to load projects or forum posts.  We have good news and better news.

The GOOD news is that the site is FIXED!  You should now be able to load your projects with no troubles.

The BETTER news is that you now have an additional TWO WEEKS to participate in the challenge for a chance to WIN a $100 prize pack!

Entries aren't being judged, so no reason to hold back...anyone who enters is eligible for the random drawing.  All you have to do is:
* Post a project in the gallery with a creative edge (using a Punch Around the Page type system or anything else that your creative genius comes up with!).
* Tell us somewhere (in the description, instructions or materials) how you came up with your creative edge.
* Comment back on this thread with a link to your gallery project, and you're entered to win!

Happy crafting, all you creative canaries... and best of luck!

Now the site is fixed...WOOT!  I can't wait to play and post again! I just came in from my local JoAnn's and you know how you get when you're in a store immersed in product?? Like, all crazy-weird with your brain working OT and you're scribbling down notes of things that come to you?? Then people look at you funny as you dance from aisle to aisle? What? It cannot be just me! Hahahahaha. I know I've seen a few like me out there in the papercrafting aisle!

Anyway, this craft freakshow cannot wait to take out her punches (one of my FAVE tools EVER).

See you soon, I hope!

Hello,

What beautiful cards!!  I really like the color combinations and the style of the stamped flower to the paper.  I really like your punch too, it looks so lacy and makes a very nice edge all around.

Thanks for sharing, you have inspired me to try some more.

Amanda

Thank you so much, Amanda. The flower is a favorite of mine. I used 2 shades of Distress Inks for the flower, using the lightest (Worn Lipstick) all over the bloom and edging it with the darker (Fired Brick?), and used another Distress Ink for the stem (Peeled Paint?). I stamped it on watercolor paper, which I love the look of. Then I used a ColorSpritzer (Stampin' Up) with a brown marker (a ZIG brush tip) to get the spotted effect.

The Punch Around the Page is amazing. I love it!!!

The cardsock I used is DCWV with a white core, so the sanding/distressing pops. I also touched the edges with a Distress Ink (Antique Linen or Vintage Photo--likely both). The flower is matted and then attached to the card center with 3-D Dots.

These are so easy that, once I had the product out, I just made a few to send to friends. I love easy!

Thanks again!

You're so welcome! I love the watercolor paper. I think it's Canson--the one with the blue paper cover. It's not as expensive as the others, and you can use a coupon at your local Michaels or AC Moore.

I can't wait to see what you do with the punches, if you get a chance & can post them!

Edgy Project -- Wedding Favor -- Thank You Treat

Using 3"x6" craft cardstock I scored and folded to make a treat "matchbook" cover -- great for weddings as an easy and affordable party favor. To make the perfect corner punch curve you have to use a 3.25"x6" piece of stock. The Merci stamp is from The Paper Source. The ribbon is Martha Stewart craft seam binding in Dove White. Chestnut Roan Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink. I think the punch set is Scallop Three Dot - Punch Around the Page by Martha Stewart, I got mine at Michaels last fall/winter and think it is a very classy look.

I used glue dots to stick in the chocolates and my score board to make folding easier.

The treats inside are mini Scharfen Berger dark chocolates and Ghiradelli Squares but you could use any flat treat or mini chocolate.

Here is link to my blog -- I have a number of the punch around the page edgers -- mice, snowflakes, hearts, scallop emboss and some of the originals too.

I am having some challenges uploading... it says the max file size is a 2000 byte file to the link below and will scale it back again. This is tiny... check out my blog. This is my first visit. Thanks for the challenge contest.

Here is a link to the Flock Creative Gallery with more pix in full size.

OK -- as I guessed the link is tiny... hmmm something is up. Please let me know how to fix before contest ends. I really want to play, but a 2k file is just too small.

I also posted to the creative gallery and this is the link to my page.

Thank you for the comments and I am happy the link worked. I am glad you can use the idea and would love to see your paper or stamp pick. I really try to make things like this easy to make, the punches dress them up do much, and to be thrifty I want to get as many from a 12x12 piece of paper as possible. That is why some are 3x6 and the other 3.25x6 to make the corner part of the punch set work.
