Combine silk thread and crystal beads to upgrade the classic macramé knot bracelet. An important tip to remember is to form the square knots correctly, otherwise the bracelet will begin to spiral.
Instructions
STEP
1:
Apply beeswax to the ends of the threads.
STEP
2:
Fold both strands in half and make an overhand knot leaving a loop of about 3/8 of an inch. Tape the loop to your work surface.
STEP
3:
Position the threads so that the longer ones are on the outside and the shorter ones are in the middle. Make a square knot.
STEP
4:
String a seed bead, crystal bicone and another seed bead onto each of the outer strands. Make a square knot. Repeat the process until you have 6 pairs of bicones ranging from lightest to darkest.
STEP
5:
String a 6mm round bead onto the two middle strands and make a square knot. Repeat this step alternating between the focal beads and the 6 mm round beads.
STEP
6:
Repeat step 4 in reverse order, beginning with the darkest bicones.
STEP
7:
To finish the piece make 4 square knots followed by an overhand knot. String an 8 mm round crystal bead onto the 4 strands and make another overhand knot. Trim excess thread and add a small dab of glue to the last knot.
