Your journal should be as unique as you are!  Create this colorful needlepoint journal cover with a stitched mini frog design accented with bright strips of fabric.

Instructions

  1. Create the black cover for the journal by measuring the book and adding an inch to the top and bottom of the fabric and approximately five inches to each side. Fold the top and bottom edges in one inch and either stitch in place or use a double sided adhesive.
  2. Fold under raw edges of fabric strips. Hand stitch the fabric strips to the edges of the needlepoint design using a stitch such as slip stitch.
  3. To determine the placement of the stitched piece on the front cover, place the book on the cover and fold in the ends. Do not stitch ends in place at this time. Pin or tack the design in place on the front cover. Remove the book. Attach the stitched design to the front cover, again using a slip stitch around the perimeter.
  4. Using embroidery stitches such as stem stitch and back stitch, extend the tree limb onto the black cover. Use a back stitch to embroider the word “Journal” or other desired personalization.
  5. Place the book inside the black cover. Fold the ends to create a pocket for the book edges. Tack in place top and bottom.
