Add a little “Punch” and Pizzazz to any special occasion with a sweet treat door hanger signifying a birthday. Who wouldn't want to wake up to this fun pillow on their door!

Instructions

STEP 1:

Using a pencil, trace your cupcake pattern onto the weaver’s cloth. Use simple shapes to create your cupcake: circle, heart, scallops.

STEP 2:

Outline your cupcake design with tan embroidery floss using a simple back stitch.

STEP 3:

Follow the directions on how to thread your punch needle. Use the proper amount of strands of embroidery floss. Remember you will be working on the back side of the weaver’s cloth when punching your design.

STEP 4:

Fill in the largest areas of the cupcake first. Keep your needle perpendicular to your embroidery hoop. The weaver’s cloth must be extremely tight in the hoop. Keep tightening the fabric by tugging on the edges as you work to keep it as tight as you possibly can. Punch the loops and barely move your needle above the Weaver’s Cloth as you move to the next place to punch. This takes practice. Keep the front of your punch needle facing forward and always lead with the front of the needle. It is helpful to mark an “X” on the front of your punch needle tool as a reminder of the correct position. Lightly add no-sew glue to the back of your design to stabilize your punches.

STEP 5:

Cut a base for your small pillow from cotton fabric that measure 10 x 10.

STEP 6:

Cut 4 pieces of cotton fabric strips 3 x 10.

STEP 7:

Piece the cotton fabric strips around the needle punched cupcake and sew. Add the ribbon handle and the button embellishments.

STEP 8:

Sew the back onto the front design to create a pillow, leaving an opening for adding the stuffing. Stitch the pillow closed and hang it for the special birthday taking place in your home today!

STEP 9:

ADDITIONAL NOTES: The key is keeping the fabric tight. Make sure to use a plastic embroidery hoop with a lip on the inner ring. Placing a bowl under your embroidery hoop to punch into will help you not to punch into your lap.
