Making beautiful jewelry doesn’t always mean using silver, gold or other metals traditionally used in jewelry making. There’s a new trend amongst fabric and yarn artists that incorporates non-traditional ways of making pretty, contemporary everyday jewelry. I’ve had a lot of fun making felt bracelets using supplies like wool felt and roving, pre-made felt embellishments, embroidery threads and stitches, sequins, buttons and seed beads.

Don’t limit yourself to this list of supplies – let your imagination run wild to see what unique items you can use.
It’s easy to work with these wool bracelets – no wire bending, soldering or heavy equipment is required! You need only 2 tools: scissors and a needle and you are ready to get started.
Once you're comfortable with simple stitched felt bracelets, incorporate needle felting techniques to add another layer of dimension. For needle felted bracelets you’ll need the roving, a special felting needle and a foam block to do the felting on.

Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Use a variety of coordinating buttons that vary in size and shape, some embroidery thread and stitch them to a wool spiral bracelet, establish a pattern and repeat until complete as I did here. Or use a random pattern to stitch the buttons to the bracelet.

- Create a unique bangle bracelet by stitching jump rings to a thin wool bangle bracelet and add charms to the jump rings. Once filled, the bracelet will be a conversation piece at any get together.

- To create a pretty cuff using a pre-made embellishment and a little bit of needle felting simply follow the instructions included in the Dimensions 2 Felting Needles & Foam Block kit (73357). Use green roving to create the stem of a flower on the cuff and hand stitch a pre-made felt flower to the bracelet.

These are just a few ideas to get you started making contemporary style jewelry. There are so many pre-made wool embellishments available that the felt bracelet ideas you could come up with seem limitless to me!
